Outdoor Activity First Aid – 2 day course (16 Hours)
This course is suitable for those needing to gain First Aid skills that may be used in Activity and Outdoor situations. It is designed for those involved in group activities and sports, instructors who need a First Aid qualification recognised by governing bodies and also Duke of Edinburgh Award participants
The course covers a wide variety of possible injuries and common medical conditions. It is delivered in a friendly, easy to understand manner to give people the skills and confidence to react to both minor incidents and Emergency situations.
It includes both theory and practical sessions.
The syllabus includes:
Dealing with an Emergency and First Aid Priorities
Communication and Casualty care
Primary Survey, Recovery position
Resuscitation (Basic Life Support) Adult and Child
Choking Adult and Child
Unconsciousness, Reasons for and treatment – includes Heart Attack, Stroke, Fainting, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Shock, Asthma, Anaphylactic shock
Wounds and Bleeding – minor and major, applying dressings and appropriate use of tournequets and haemostatic dressings
Burns and Scalds
Minor Injuries associated with outdoor activities ie blisters, stings and splinters
Fractures and dislocations
Hypothermia and Hyperthermia
Dealing with post incident, Recording and Reporting
First Aid Kits
Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment and 100% attendance there is no formal examination. Those who successfully complete the course are deemed to have reached the required standard, they are awarded a certificate that is valid for three years. It is highly recommended to complete a skills refresher course of 3 hours at least once a year.
Participants must be willing to take part in scenario based activities.
Cost £138.00 per person includes a certificate and manual. Refreshments supplied.
